As one of the biggest agricultural exports,
palm oil contributes significantly to the Indonesian
economy. The palm oil industry has helped to
alleviate rural poverty and improved livelihoods
through the creation of jobs, provision of basic
infrastructure and access to essential services such
          as healthcare and education.
If managed improperly, palm oil operations may
result in social conflicts and have potentially adverse
consequences on the livelihoods and well-being of
local and indigenous communities. Apical seeks to
maintain positive relations with these communities
by respecting their rights and improving their
          livelihoods through community empowerment and
          development activities.
